Senator Go encouraged PhilHealth to give some leeway to hospitals affected by its circular.
On Sunday, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go encouraged the Philippine Health Insurance Corp (PhilHealth) to provide hospitals some leeway and to postpone the implementation of its Circular No. 2021-0013 which hospital and health provider groups believed conveyed state insurance agency’s “mistrust” towards them.
Senator Go, who was also the chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, said that he had reached out to Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, PhilHealth President Dante Gierran, and Secretary Carlito Galvez in order to help resolve issues concerning the temporary suspension of payment of claims that were subject of investigations because of alleged fraud, among others.
The senator said in a statement that he appealed to PhilHealth to suspend its Circular and to give hospitals some leeway as the country was facing a pandemic.
“Bigyan natin ng palugit dahil iba ang sitwasyon ngayon. May hinaharap pa tayong pandemya at kailangan nating magtulungan para malampasan ito at maproteksyunan ang buhay ng ating mga kababayan,” Senator Go said.

According to Senator Go, while he had no qualms over PhilHealth’s move to introduce reforms in its system in order to protect public funds from being used by unscrupulous individuals, PhilHealth should also consider the ordinary citizens that would be affected in case the country’s public health care system was jeopardized by funding issues.
The senator then advised PhilHealth and hospitals that have pending claims to get the documents ready so that the processing of payments would be fast. He also said that those with fraudulent claims will be charged.
“Yung mga maayos naman, tulungan natin silang magampanan ang tungkulin nila sa komunidad lalo na ngayon na napaka-importante ng mga ospital dahil tumataas na naman ang kaso ng mga nagkakasakit,” Senator Go appealed.
