On Tuesday, Lacson confirmed to GMA News that he and Sotto will be running for president and vice president, respectively, in the upcoming elections.

Nabasa na talampakan namin sa Tour of Luzon kaya tuluy-tuloy lulusong na kami,” Lacson told GMA News.

Sotto also confirmed to CNN Philippines that he and Lacson will be running in tandem for the 2022 elections. However, Sotto said that they will be making an announcement on the matter by August 4, 2021.

You can already read between the lines that the answer is yes,” Sotto said in an interview with CNN Philippines’ The Source when asked about their election plans.

Sotto, meanwhile, clarified that he and Lacson wouldn’t identify themselves as opposition bets or pro-administration candidates.

We are the alternative. We’re not pro-administration. We’re not the opposition. We’re neutral… It’s up to the people to pick who they want, who they should vote for,” Sotto said, speaking partly in Filipino.

According to Sotto, their decision to run for president and vice president came from their “love of country”. He also noted that he and Lacson had 83 years in public service combined.

When asked about their programs, Sotto said that they would push for budget reform in order to ensure that national funds would trickle down to localities. He further pointed to the country’s ballooning debt as one of the problems the next leaders will have to address.

To summarize their programs, Sotto said that it will be anchored on ability, honesty, and courage — “kakayahan, katapatan, at katapangan”.
