Philippine experts were studying the efficacy of COVID-19 booster shots, according to DOH.
On Saturday, the Department of Health (DOH) said that Philippine experts were studying the efficacy of COVID-19 booster shots.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in an interview at the Laging Handa public briefing that Philippine experts were studying data from all over the world in order to make a possible recommendation for COVID-19 booster shots for the population.
According to Vergeire, experts have yet to present complete evidence regarding the effectiveness of COVID-19 booster shots.
“Ang gusto lang naman po ng ating gobyerno at ng ating mga eksperto, tayo ay sigurado at may sapat na ebidensya para makapagrekomenda tayo ng booster shots sa ating population,” Vergeire said.

Also, Vergeire mentioned the equity consideration wherein those who weren’t yet vaccinated might be set aside upon the introduction of COVID-19 booster shots.
Earlier, the Department of Health said that Philippine experts weren’t yet recommending getting a COVID-19 booster shot because of limited data.
Vergeire said that the timing of the COVID-19 booster shot was dependent on the length of immunity given by a certain vaccine.
The DOH official also called for “solidarity” as they waited for the majority of the population to get inoculated against COVID-19 before thinking of COVID-19 booster shots.
