The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) recently announced that it will sign a deal with the UN body for international space cooperation.
On Tuesday, the Philippine Space Agency announced that it will sign an agreement with the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) in order to strengthen their shared commitment to the peaceful uses of outer space.
According to the Philippine Space Agency, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will provide a framework for cooperation between two parties to collaborate on different strategic areas, initiatives, and activities related to space science, policy, technology, education, law, and capacity-building.
Moreover, the Memorandum of Understanding sought to further strengthen the cooperation between UNOOSA and PhilSA in promoting the utilization of space for socioeconomic and sustainable development objectives.

In a statement, PhilSA Director-General Joel Joseph S. Marciano, Jr. underscored the importance of the agreement to promote space science.
“The MOU is an important step for the country as we continue to build the local space ecosystem and cascade the benefits of space science, technology and applications to society. It signifies our desire to be an active participant and contributor within the community of nations committed to the peaceful uses of outer space,” Marciano said.
Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will be held during the 60th Session of the Legal Subcommittee (LSC) of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS).
As the UN body dedicated to outer space, the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs served as the Secretariat to the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS).
