Comelec official to Filipino voters: “Don’t sell your vote”
COMELEC OFFICIAL TO FILIPINO VOTERS — A Commission on Elections (Comelec) official had recently asked Filipino voters not to sell their vote.
Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said in his Twitter account that voters shouldn’t sell their vote. He also said that taking the money but still voting who they wanted to was “not acceptable”.
Jimenez added that the poll body alone can’t fully prevent vote buying, especially if it went digital.
“Addressing this issue isn’t something that anyone of our agencies can do by itself. It will have to be a common effort by all agencies. We’ve been saying this as much for the longest time, or since the people started using e-wallets. We have seen that potential. Especially with the onset of the pandemic, many transactions have moved into online transactions. That’s obviously keeping us late at night,” Jimenez said in a television interview last June 17.
Vote buying was defined as politicians offering voters with food, cash, or anything of value in exchange for their votes.

Meanwhile, Comelec announced that Filipino voters can already register using a mobile application.
Comelec commissioner Marlon Cascuejo said last June 14 that launching a mobile app will make voter registration more accessible, adding that the introduction of the mobile app was “very timely” amidst the pandemic when almost everything was done online.
“This will save time, effort, and money that will be otherwise spent on going to a computer shop to download and print the form, or getting the form at the local Comelec to fill it out manually,” Cascuejo said.
