Oriental Mindoro town mayor had tested positive for COVID-19 after receiving his first jab.
Oriental Mindoro town mayor had tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) days after receiving his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
In a social media post on Friday, Naujan Mayor Mark Marcos said that he first had a COVID-19 antigen test last Tuesday and when he had tested positive for COVID-19, he underwent a COVID-19 Reverse Transcription – Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test on the same day.
The RT-PCR test result came out last Thursday, confirming his infection.
However, Mayor Mark said in a phone interview on Friday morning that only his office at the municipal hall was on lockdown. He then decided to have a swab test even after he was inoculated against COVID-19 last May 18 because of a persistent nose congestion.
“Before vaccination, my body was in good condition,” Mayor Mark said.

Mayor Mark first thought that it was a side effect of the COVID-19 vaccine, but his nose was still congested and his sense of smell weakened last Tuesday, prompting him to take the swab test.
Najuan had 55 active COVID-19 cases — including that of the mayor — as of Friday. The town ranked 2nd to Calapan City, which had 189 active COVID-19 cases as of the May 28 bulletin of the city.
So far, Oriental Mindoro province had logged 3,375 COVID-19 cases, of which 515 cases were active. The province also recorded 103 deaths.
