Gutierrez On Roque’s Challenge To VP Robredo To Debate On WPS Issue

Gutierrez gave a reaction about Roque’s challenge to Vice President Robredo to debate on the WPS issue.

Vice Presidential spokesperson Barry Gutierrez recently gave a reaction about Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque’s challenge to Vice President Leni Robredo to debate on the West Philippine Sea issue.

Gutierrez scored Roque for dragging the Vice President into debate discussions, saying that it was ironic since it was President Rodrigo Duterte who backed out from his own dare.

On Monday, Gutierrez took to Twitter in pointing out how Duterte administration officials seemed to have a lot of time on their hands for them to be issuing such demands, instead of just focusing on work, just as the Vice President did.

“Anlakas ng loob maghamon, eh yung unang debateng hiningi inatrasan naman. Mas mabuti pa, tularan na lang ninyo si VP Leni: magtrabaho na lang kayo. Dami nyong oras eh,” Gutierrez said in his tweet.

His tweet came after Roque challenged Robredo to a debate after the latter insinuated that the Philippines, under the current administration, lost disputed territories in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) islands to China.

Earlier, President Duterte backed out of the debate which he himself instigated to challenge Retired Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio’s claims against his policy in dealing with China.

President Duterte instead designated Roque to debate in his behalf. Roque, however, listed down a number of topics for discussion in the debate.

Carpio then rejected such terms and said that the topics being raised by Roque as a precondition for the debate weren’t being contested by him or anyone, as such, it’s “pointless” to debate on them.
