Based on a report on Gizguide, PLDT’s wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. had tapped Cignal TV, Inc. last December to provide satellite broadband services for areas without land-based networks.
BusinessWorld previously reported last December 2020 that Smart will be using Cignal’s “very small aperture terminal (VSAT)” technology in order to provide services for subscribers in areas with low to no data coverage.
Cignal also shared that the VSAT services of Smart were active across the Philippines — including Batanes and some areas in Tawi-Tawi and Palawan.
Meanwhile, Globe Telecom earlier shared last March 2021 that it was working with US-based Curvalux in an effort to bring internet services to remote areas in the Philippines.
