On their respective Instagram accounts, Castelino and Akselrad shared that they weren’t immune from COVID-19 despite taking the extra precaution to curb the virus, adding that they asked for their fans’ prayers for their quick recovery so that they may compete in the upcoming competition.
According to Castelino, she developed mild coronavirus symptoms and unfortunatedly tested positive for COVID-19.
Castelino also said that she had quarantined herself and was taking the necessary precautions in order for her to get better.
Akselrad, whose caption was written in Spanish language, said that she went to the supermarket with her mother and there’s a man who was “coughing, his mask wrong, and with his nose out” behind them in the line at the checkout.
According to her, her mother asked the man if he could please respect the distance and put on the mask. From that day on, she said that her family isolated themselves as a precaution and they started exhibiting coronavirus symptoms a few days later.
Earlier this year, Miss Universe Malaysia Francisca Luhong James had also tested positive for COVID-19 but had since recovered and was on her way to compete for the coveted crown.
With the addition of the two Miss Universe candidates, that totals to three Miss Universe beauty queens who had tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Miss Universe Philippines Rabiya Mateo was already in Florida, USA in order to compete in the preliminary competition for the 69th Miss Universe pageant.
