A company in the Philippines reformulated its vitamin products to fight COVID-19, according to DOST.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said that a company in the Philippines reformulated its vitamin products to fight COVID-19.
In a report on Manila Bulletin, the Department of Science and Technology had bared that a Tarlac-based manufacturing company had reformulated its Hyssop Vitamin C capsules in a move to strengthen the country’s fight against COVID-19.
According to DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Pena, I-Provide Health Food Manufacturing (IPHFM) — the producer of food supplements and Vitamin C capsules — was able to reformulate its vitamin products in order to address the growing need to improve the immune system to combat COVID-19 through the agency’s assistance under “Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP)”.
He also noted that initially, the IPHFM’s vitamin capsule was composed only of calcium ascorbate and red acerola which was common and similar to other available products in the Philippine market.
However, de la Pena said that through its R&D (research and development) Team composed of pharmacists, chemists, consultants, and the owner himself who has 22 years of experience in herbal medicine, the IPHFM took a step forward in order to improve their product and reformulated Hyssop Vitamin C.
“Hyssop, known for its use as folk medicine was combined for a synergistic effect with extracts from all-natural plants such as guava, rosehips, red acerola cherry and ashitaba, and high-quality calcium ascorbate, is a non-acidic and non-synthetic vitamin C,” de la Pena said in a report.

In addition, de la Peña said that the capsules were meticulously processed in “a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), FDA-LTO (Food and Drug Administration-License to Operate), and Halal-certified processing facility, wherein raw materials were sourced from ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certified suppliers”.
He added that the laboratory tests were validated by a third-party ISO-certified laboratory. With this, the Food and Drug Administration granted a Certificate of Product Registration (CPR) to IPHFM’s Hyssop Vitamin C capsule.
Aside from this, de la Peña said that the company produced herbal capsules with balanced formulation best for the heart, lungs, and stomach.
According to him, the Rescircol herbal capsule was an “excellent product” made for the circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems as it was made from a “powerful combination of local herbs”, which in return also supported local farmers.
So far, the IPHFM had produced 20 different kinds of food supplements and health products that can be availed through distributors or through online.
