The DICT said in a statement on Wednesday that every location has four Wi-Fi access points.
According to DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II, internet connectivity “keeps us going, keeps us productive, and keeps us connected” while the coronavirus pandemic continued to bring the Philippines and the world to a standstill.
However, Honasan said that access to internet connectivity remained a challenge in remote areas — particularly in the countryside.
“We are ramping up the deployment of Free Wi-Fi sites in various locations and also strengthened our partnership with local government units for the implementation of the program in their respective localities,” Honasan said.
Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, the new sites were launched through the Department of Information and Communication Technology’s Luzon Cluster 1.
According to DICT Undersecretary for Digital Philippines Emmanuel Rey R. Caintic, the goal of “Free Wi-Fi for All” program had always been to provide Filipinos access to the internet in public places and also to bring the internet and the opportunities it carried to the people wherever in the Philippines they may be.
