Court Required Man To Pay Wife P377K For Not Doing Housework For 5 Years
MAN REQUIRED TO PAY P377K – A Chinese court ordered a man to pay his wife around 50,000 Yuan or P377K for allegedly not doing any form of housework and childcare for 5 years.
According to an article from Philstar, the man identified as Chen. He reportedly filed for divorce back in 2020 from his wife, surnamed “Wang”.
Initially, they were married back in 2015. However, things came to rocky conclusion which led to Chen wanting a divorce.
But, Wang hesitated to file the papers. Instead, she asked for financial compensation first. Wang claimed that her husband didn’t do any housework or childcare for their son.
Because of this, she demanded $24,700 in compensation. Based on an article from China National Radio, Mr. Chen only went to work and cared not for any sort of domestic activity.
Additionally, the Beijing Fangshan court also ordered the man to pay his wife an additional 2,000 yuan (P15,000) and awarded custody to his wife.
Usually, divorces result to the splitting of tangible assets. However, the court decided that “housework constitutes intangible property value”.
Still, the ruling sparked debate on Chinese social media platforms as many pointed out that 50,000 yuan for five years of housework was too little. Meanwhile, others emphasized that men should also be responsible with housework.
