Batangas Residents Evacuated Over Taal Volcano Activity
TAAL VOLCANO – The Batangas Provincial Government implemented a mandatory evacuation of residents on Taal Volcano island due to its increased volcanic activity.
Earlier around 8:00 A.M., Philvolcs reported that Taal Volcano was raised to Alert level 1. This meant that the volcano has been showing “abnormal conditions”.
According to the agency, “sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas can occur and threaten areas within the Taal Volcano Island“.
Meanwhile, a report from ABS-CBN said the Philippine Coast Guard has also begun taking preemptive evacuation of residents as a precautionary measure against more critical volcanic activity.
Furthermore, Philvolcs advised the government to place a permanent no-entry zone around Taal Volcano Islands “Permanent Danger Zone”. In the past day, the volcano has had 98 tremors, each having a duration of 5 to 12 minutes. This is a developing story.
