Man Dies In Apartment But Still Gets Billed After Death
MAN DIES IN APARTMENT STILL GETS BILLED – The daughter of a man who died in his apartment was speechless after she received a letter from his landlord asking them to pay rent.
According to reports, the man was identified as Robert. His Daugther, Deana Barber recalled how her father died in his sleep days before Christmas in Milwaukee.
But, according to the letter she received from her dad’s landlord, they are bound by law to pay for January’s rent because he “vacated the property”. Furthermore, the company BG Lein Management withheld “the entire security deposit” due to outstanding rent this January.
During an interview with TMJ4 News, she informed the company that her father broke his lease due to his death. “Just like, my mind is just blown. Like, I don’t know what else to say about that, honestly”, Deana said.
Along with this, extra fees were also incurred due to damages to his apartment. Deana recalled how paramedics had to break through Robert’s door to get inside. However, she said that she spent days after her father died cleaning the flat and returning all of his keys and garage door opener.
As a response, BG Lein Management said that they were merely bound by the law to send the details to the family. They explained that the letter may sound “unsympathetic” because they “use standard content across the board to ensure consistency and adherence to state law“.

“We don’t surprise people. If a tenant owes money, that is clear. If there is light, moderate, or severe cleaning or repairs, this is clear”, the company added.
Still, Deana believes this act to be completely heartless. She emphasized that “just because you cant, doesn’t mean that you should”.
