In a televised briefing on Wednesday, Galvez said that the Philippines had signed and submitted the requirements — including the indemnification agreements for AstraZeneca and Pfizer — to COVAX Facility.

According to Galvez, they’re awaiting the COVAX Facility’s feedback on the indemnity agreement wherein the Philippine government assured COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers that it would assume responsibility should COVID-19 vaccine recipients experience adverse effects.

COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech initially expected to arrive mid-February faced delays because of the hitches in ironing out the indemnity agreement. Despite this, the vaccine czar assured that the deal with Pfizer under the COVAX facility was still good to go.

Earlier, Galvez had already asked President Rodrigo Duterte to certify as urgent bills pending in Congress that would establish an indemnity fund in order to compensate recipients who would experience side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine.
