In a report on Manila Bulletin, Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) COVID-19 Testing Laboratory Head Dr. Raymundo Lo lead the research on Saliva-Based Testing and Pooled Saliva-Based Testing.

Dr. Lo noted that saliva-based testing was already used in the United States and was a good method to get samples for COVID-19 testing.

The said method was also more convenient and ideal as it’s painless and no swabbers will be needed to extract samples.

Dr. Lo also said that the said method not only saved time, effort, and money, but also cost-effective as it needed fewer PPEs, eliminated the need for swab kits and extraction machines, reduced the chances of coronavirus infection as it reduced the need for interaction, and saved a lot in terms of manpower and materials.

Meanwhile, Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship and Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion thanked the Department of Health (DOH) for signing the Interim Guidelines on the Conduct of COVID-19 Pooled Testing in the Philippines.

With all these announcements, our Filipino people can be assured that we will not be left behind. With the efforts of Sec. Galvez in bringing the vaccine to this country, we will soon see this pandemic disappear,” Concepcion said.
