The Philippines was eyeing to roll out the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in February via the COVAX facility, according to vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr.
Vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. on Tuesday said that the Philippines was also eyeing to roll out the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in February via the COVAX facility apart from China’s Sinovac.
In an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel, Galvez said that Pfizer might be the first COVID-19 vaccine to arrive in the Philippines because the COVAX facility would be deploying the early rollout of Pfizer.
“Baka mauna ang Pfizer because the COVAX facility will be deploying the early rollout of Pfizer so iintayin din namin ‘yun sa February,” Galvez said in an interview.
Galvez also said that they’re meeting with the COVAX facility this morning in order to apply for its scheduled early rollout in February.

The COVAX facility was a platform that aimed to ensure rapid, fair, and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines for people in all countries.
The Department of Health (DOH) said that the COVAX facility already guaranteed COVID-19 vaccines for 20% of the country’s population.
Earlier, the Philippines already secured 25 million doses of China’s Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine and some 50,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses would also arrive in the country by February.
Meanwhile, the Philippine government signed a “term sheet” with the Serum Institute of India (SII) in order to secure 30 million COVID-19 vaccine doses.
