United States President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday told reporters that he would receive a COVID-19 vaccination publicly.

Before leaving for Georgia to campaign for two Democratic Senate candidates, Biden — a 78-year-old President-elect of the United States — told reporters that top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci had recommended that he would get the COVID-19 vaccine “sooner than later”.

I want to make sure we do it by the numbers and when I do it, you’ll have notice and we’ll do it publicly. Dr. Fauci recommends I get the vaccine sooner than later,” Biden said.

Over 300,000 people in the United States had died from coronavirus disease and a winter surge was continuing across much of the country.

The United States on Monday kicked off a mass vaccination drive and the authorities hoped to vaccinate 20 million people this month, with long-term care residents and health care workers at the front of the line.

In a report on ABS-CBN News, authorities in the United States wanted to reach the rest of the population by summer, but much would depend on vaccine confidence.

As per the report, experts estimated over 70% of people will need to be vaccinated in order to stem the coronavirus outbreak.

Last Friday (US time), US President Donald Trump piled pressure on US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) to quickly approve the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech.
