Nurse who administered the COVID-19 vaccine to the first patient in UK was a Filipina.
The first health care worker who administered the approved coronavirus vaccine to the first patient in United Kingdom was a Filipina nurse.
Based on a report on Interaksyon, May Parsons — a Filipina nurse who had worked for National Health Service (NHS) in Britain for 24 years — made history as the first health care worker to administer a COVID-19 vaccine to Margaret Keenan, who was the first patient in UK who received the vaccine.
Parsons was quoted by the Irish Times as saying that it’s an honor for her to part of the said history. According to her, she’s just glad that she’s able to play a part in this historic day.
“The last few months have been tough for all of us working in the NHS, but now it feels like there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” Parsons said.

UK Ambassador to the Philippines Daniel Pruce said in a tweet that he praised Parsons as one of the Filipino health workers in Britain who had made an “enormous contribution” to the National Health Service.
Parsons also earned praises from Filipinos online. However, some Filipinos couldn’t help but to compare the treatment of health workers in UK to the Philippines.
They also hoped that the government could learn to appreciate Filipino health workers in the Philippines in the future.
