The Philippine government was considering to secure a deal with vaccine makers by end of 2020 or early January 2021, according to Galvez.
National Task Force Against COVID-19 (NTF COVID-19) Chief Implementer and vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. on Saturday said that the Philippine government was eyeing to secure a deal with vaccine makers by the end of 2020 or by early January 2021.
This, as the Philippine government was targeting to secure a deal with different vaccine makers on the heels of the issue that the country missed an opportunity to have Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine delivered by January 2021.
In a statement, Galvez said at a briefing that they’re just waiting for the validation and the confirmation from the Pfizer headquarters.
“Once na nagkaroon ng talagang kung ilan ‘yung i-a-allocate sa atin ay magkakaroon na po ng pirmahan. Hopefully ang earliest is within this month, or just in case madelay ‘yung allocation, it will be first week of January. Natutuwa kami sa Pfizer kasi hindi po kami iniwan,” Galvez said.

Galvez’s statement came after Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. mentioned that somebody “dropped the ball” which affected the shipment of 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech to the Philippines by January 2021.
However, Galvez insisted that the country didn’t miss an opportunity to secure doses of COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and BioNTech, noting that negotiations on many occasions would reach stalemate and gridlock when public interest, legal challenges, and safety were at stake.
Nevertheless, Galvez said that the Philippines was currently in the advanced stages of negotiations with different vaccine makers.
