Galvez gave clarifications on the prices of COVID-19 vaccines released to media
Vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. had recently gave clarifications on the prices of COVID-19 vaccines that was released to the media.
According to Galvez, the prices of COVID-19 vaccines that was released to the media were all commercial prices and not the negotiated prices given to them by the companies.
“The negotiated price of a dose of vaccine is mostly at a cost since most of the companies believed that during this pandemic our moral obligation and global interest is to save lives and humanity,” he added.
Galvez also explained that negotiations on prices of COVID-19 vaccines were guided by the Department of Finance (DOF) in allocating PHP 73 billion to PHP 75 billion for the vaccination of 60 to 80 million Filipinos and which would allow the Philippines to achieve the World Health Organization’s standard for herd immunity.

In addition, Galvez said that they hoped to seal deals similar to the tripartite agreement they signed with Astrazeneca wherein 2.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine were sold to the private sector at no profit and donated to the government at no cost.
Moreover, Galvez reiterated that they wanted to assure the public that the government wouldn’t compromise their vaccine selection, negotiation, and procurement process.

The vaccine czar also said that no deal would be finalized without the corresponding regulatory approval from the country of origin and Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration in the Philippines.
