Duque Says Pfizer Issue Divisive, Only Worsens Public Trust In Gov’t, Vaccines
DUQUE ON PFIZER ISSUE – Health Secretary Francisco Duque said the Pfizer issue is only divisive and worsens the public’s trust in vaccines and the government.
Previously, Duque was bombarded with criticisms after lawmakers claimed that he “dropped the ball” on the Pfizer deal. However, Duque quickly denied this issue and said there was no “dropping of the ball”.
Afterward, Duque said that pointing fingers on the allegedly botched Pfizer deal is “further damaging the public’s already delicate confidence in vaccines and the government’s strategies“. Furthermore, Duque emphasized that it’s one thing to get vaccines, but it’s another to make people consent to vaccination.
Meanwhile, Duque was also warned of criminal charges if proven that anomalies were in play during the Pfizer procurement deal. But, according to an article from GMA, Duque said that a probe into the “delay” would prove his innocence.
As per the article, Duque said:
“We have documentation of everything that we did every step of the way. What we did was due diligence, made sure there were no onerous or disadvantageous provisions. This involves billions of pesos worth of vaccines from taxpayers’ money so it is very important to be very knowledgeable of the complexities of the immunization program“
Moreover, Duque asserted that important vaccine supply deals such as the Pfizer deal always require documentation.
