Catanduanes Mayor Asks Replacement For Police Chief After Gregorio Death Comment
CATANDUANES MAYOR ASKS REPLACEMENT – Police Chief Ariel Ruego Buraga became viral yesterday for his comments regarding the slain Gregorio mother and son.
According to Buraga, the deaths of Sonya and Frank Gregorio was due to the mother lacking respect for police officers. This caused a massive backlash, forcing Burago to make a follow-up statement.
This time, he clarified that he condemned the actions of the killer cop, Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca. Still, he asserted that people need to respect police and that he was misunderstood.
Following this, a report from CNN said that Mayor Juan Rodulfo of Bato Town, Catanduanes wrote a letter to the provinces’ Police Provincial Director, PCol. Brian Castillo.
In the letter, he emphasized that they were “disturbed” by the viral comment posted by Cptn. Ariel Buraga. Meanwhile, Rodolfu said he acknowledges that Buraga has a right to share his thoughts on the mother-son slay.
However, he noted that the town police chief should’ve maintained restraint and prudence when talking about such a sensitive issue. According to an article from CNN, he said:
We will highly appreciate if the PNP could assign another Chief-of-Police in this municipality to assuage the fears of the constituents of this LGU of a seemingly biased chief-of-police whose loyalty it seems rests primarily with his fellow policemen than with the constituents in his area of responsibility
Currently, the Bicol Regional Police Commander PBrig. Gen. Bartolome Bustamante is studying the proposal to replace Buraga.
