NTC had directed the immediate repair and restoration of telco services in typhoon-affected areas
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) had directed the immediate repair and restoration of telecommunication services in areas that were affected by Typhoon “Rolly”.
In a memorandum signed by Commissioner Gamaliel A. Cordoba, the National Telecommunications Commission on Sunday directed all public telecommunication entities to “accelerate the mobilization and transport” of their respective technical and service personnel and equipment to typhoon-affected areas immediately.
Accroding to National Telecommunications Commission, the need for communication became more urgent than ever for the resumption of distance learning, business transactions, and most importantly, in order to assist government rescue and recovery operations.

Telecommunications entities were asked to report to National Telecommunications Commission every six hours on their ongoing restoration activities.
The National Telecommunications Commission also asked telecommunications entities to submit their “timeline for the full restoration of service”.
NTC’s memorandum came as people in typhoon-affected areas were experiencing difficulty in sending and receiving phone calls, text messages, and mobile data due to “multiple fiber cuts” caused by the strong winds brought by Typhoon “Rolly”.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Typhoon “Rolly” weakened into a tropical storm on late Sunday and it was expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Tuesday morning.
Last Saturday, the National Telecommunications Commission issued a memorandum ordering telecommunications entities to be ready for Typhoon “Rolly”.
