Instagram rolled out its keyword search feature.
Instagram on Tuesday announced that the company was adding a keyword search feature in order to make it easier for users to find content on site.
In a report on Rappler, Instagram had began rolling out the said feature for users in countries such as the United States, UK, Canada, and Ireland.
Prior to the official rollout of the said feature on Instagram, users could only search for accounts and hashtags.
If a user searched for “fashion”, for instance, the site only showed results for accounts with that term on posts that has a #fashion tag or in a username of a certain account.
Now, searching the same keyword yielded broader search results — including public posts that were related to or classified as “fashion” even though they’re not tagged as such.

It wasn’t entirely clear yet how Instagram determined what posts were about.
However, an Instagram spokesperson noted that there were a number of factors that affect what surfaces in a user’s search results, such as captions, type of content, and the date of posts.
The site also used a machine learning (ML) artificial intelligence in order to find the most relevant content for its users.
Moreover, Instagram said that the new search feature was at present limited to “general interest” topics and keywords that were within the site’s guidelines.
