Marinduque Rep. Velasco Extends Hand to Taguig-Pateros Rep. Cayetano
VELASCO – Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco is willing to appoint Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano as deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.
Not only the House of Representatives is divided by the speakership issue but as well as the people. There is currently conflict between Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco over the term-sharing agreement.
The term-sharing agreement contains that the Marinduque Representative will succeed the Taguig-Pateros Representative as the speaker of the House of Representatives starting October 15. However, the camp of Cayetano believes that now is not the best time to change leadership.
As for the Marinduque Representative, her and his camp believe that the term-sharing agreement must be upheld and respected. He has the support of Hugpong ng Pagbabago, the party of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
Yesterday, a session that gathered majority of the members of the House of Representatives was held at the Celebrity Sports Complex in Quezon City. During the session, the position of the House Speaker was declared vacant.
Following it, an election putting Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco was held with over 200 votes. The result was not welcomed by Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.

Cayetano stressed that the session was held not in Batasang Pambansa but in Celebrity Sports Complex. He also insisted that he has the numbers.
As for Velasco, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he is willing to extend a healing hand to Cayetano. According to him, he is willing to appoint the Taguig-Pateros Representative as the deputy speaker and work with him.
Also, the Marinduque Representative is urging Cayetano to ensure a peaceful transfer of power as the speaker of the House of Representatives.
