Pope Francis appointed Cebuano priest as a Papal Chaplain or a member of the Papal household.
A Cebuano priest had been recently named by Pope Francis as Papal Chaplain or a member of the Papal household.
According to GMA News Online, a Papal Chaplain was a priest to whom the Pope had granted the said title, adding that they were addressed as Monsignor and had certain privileges with respect to ecclesiastical dress and vestments.
Msgr. Jan Thomas Limchua, a 36 year-old Cebuano priest, finished his theological studies at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Navarre in Pamplona, Spain, and he was ordained as a priest for the Archdiocese of Cebu last 2010.
In addition, he earned his doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and also underwent his diplomatic formation at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, the Diplomatic school of the Holy See.
Moreover, it was last 2014 when he entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See as he served the Apostolic Nunciature in Egypt and in Benin and Togo (West Africa).

Earlier this year, he was appointed by His Eminence Pietro Cardinal Parolin – the Vatican’s Secretary of State – as an official of the Section for the Relations with States of the Holy See.
The said appointment was considered an an honor for the Archdiocese of Cebu.
As per the report, Limchua was the third Cebuano priest to enter the diplomatic service. The other two Cebuano priest were Archbishop Francisco Padilla, the Apostolic Nuncio to Guatemala, and Archbishop Osvaldo Padilla, the Apostolic Nuncio Emeritus to Korea.
Previously, Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Charles John Brown as the new Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines.
