Batanes confirmed its first case of coronavirus disease.
The northernmost province of Batanes on Tuesday reported its first case of coronavirus disease since the COVID-19 pandemic began early this year.
In its official Facebook page, the Provincial Government of Batanes — formerly recognized as a COVID-19-free province — reported that a 29-year-old resident who returned to the said province last September 22 had tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.
As per the report, the patient had travel history in a quarantine facility at Santa Rosa in Laguna, adding that the said patient was “asymptomatic” and currently under isolation at the quarantine facility in Basco, Batanes.

The Provincial Government of Batanes also said in a statement that all identified close contacts and other locally stranded individuals under quarantine were being strictly monitored by the Provincial COVID-19 Task Group.
“We remind everyone to continuously observe minimum public health standards such as wearing of face masks and face shields, observe physical distancing and practice proper hygiene”, the Provincial Government of Batanes said in its statement.
As of this writing, the Department of Health recorded a total of 307,288 COVID-19 cases in the Philippines wherein 49,242 were recorded as total active cases, 252,665 were recorded as total recoveries, and 5,381 were recorded as total deaths.
