Sega Arcade Akihabara Building 2 will be “permanently” closed in Japan after 17 years of operations.
Sega recently confirmed on its official website that the Sega Arcade Akihabara Building 2 in Tokyo, Japan will be “permanently” close on August 30, 2020.
Although the company didn’t disclose the reason behind the scheduled permanent closure of its iconic landmark in Tokyo, some loyal patrons were speculating that the cause might be due to the lingering effects of the pandemic, which continued to force a lot of people to stay inside their homes.
Days before its confirmation, news about Sega’s nearing closure became trending on social media after a certain visitor saw a sign inside the establishment informing the public that the building will be permanently cease its operations by the end of the month of August 2020.

Despite the company’s decision, the staff of Sega Arcade Akihabara Building 2 would be holding its special events in the following weeks in order to celebrate the 17-year legacy of the iconic gaming hub with its loyal customers.
The Sega Arcade Akihabara Building No. 2 – which was originally known as Akihabara Kigo – became a tourist spot in Tokyo and also a widely-popular gaming hub for players across Japan since it first opened last 2003.
