Several areas are under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) now including the cities in Metro Manila. Most parts of the country are under a Modified GCQ now.
Recently, the MMDA announced a new requirement for motorcycle drivers and backriders in areas under the GCQ. Based on a report on GMA News, they are now required to wear a helmet with full-face visor.
Speaking to Unang Hirit, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said that it was the Joint Task Force (JTF) COVID Shield that ordered the new measure. According to him, wearing a face shield while driving a motorcycle is risky as it can be flown by the wind.
“Kailangan na kailangan na naka-face mask tayo at naka-face shield pa. So kung plastic na face shield ang gagamitin sa motor, medyo delikado po ‘yan. Liliparin ‘yan unlike noong full-face visor,” the MMDA General Manager said.
According to the report, Garcia added that the visor of the helmet should reach the bottom part of the face. It must be worn by the driver and the backrider aside from the face mask.
The MMDA has posted a photo showing the open face, modular, and the full face helmets so the public can differentiate it. Here is the photo posted on Facebook:
