For the COVID-19 contact tracing, Ormoc City has developed this application
Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez shared that their local government has developed an application for COVID-19 contact tracing.
In order to prevent the spread of the virus, as well as to ensure the safety of more people, Ormoc developed the app called “SAFE Ormoc” in tracking people who might have exposed to a COVID-19 patient.
Every individual will be assigned with QR code through email or cellphone number.
Based on the report from Manila Bulletin, Mayor Gomez said that the application will give real-time results regarding a person’s whereabouts within a period of 30 days.
“Ang contact tracing na ginagawa ng ibang local government units (LGUs), manual, nililista, hinahanap and iniinterview ‘yung tao. Minsan madali tayong nakalimot. Naisip ko since nagkaroon ng COVID iniintensify natin ‘yung contact tracing, we treated as an inventory of people,” the Mayor said.
He added that at any point in time, wherever a person went around the city, backtracking instantly is easy and that includes the people in the same place with that person and at the same time. “It’s easier to contact and locate them,” Gomez said.
Only the mayor, city health officer, and city police director will be given the authority to access the database. This is to ensure data privacy.
“Upon monitoring and if there is a breach, the attention of a certain establishment can be called. So far wala pa dito,” Mayor Richard Gomez said.
As of press time, there are already 2,800 establishments and 120 thousand people who registered using the COVID-19 contact tracing app of Ormoc City.
Previously, the Department of Health expressed that it does not see any problem in employing gossipers to be contact tracers. This came after the statement of Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Chief Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro.
