Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez Calls to Authorities After OFW Tested Positive for COVID-19
ORMOC – The city recorded its first case of COVID-19 in an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) prompting Mayor Richard Gomez to make a call to the authorities.
The Philippines is one of the nations that is fighting an invisible enemy now – the COVID-19. This coronavirus was first recorded in China last December 2019.
Starting January 2020, several other countries recorded their first cases of the disease. It is amid China locking down Wuhan City, the epicenter of the virus. More than 82,000 people were infected in China and at least 4,000 died of the disease.
In the Philippines, the Department of Health (DOH) recorded over 20,000 cases of the disease. The death toll is at 987 now while 4,330 patients have recovered from it.
There are still cities in the Philippines with no records of coronavirus cases. The local governments wanted to maintain it that’s why Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez is really saddened that the city recently recorded its first case.
The patient is a 46-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Saudi Arabia according to DOH. He was on board a plane to Tacloban and arrived the city last May 27.
Based on the report, the 46-year-old man was already tested in Metro Manila and he was negative for COVID-19. When he arrived in Tacloban, a swab sample was taken again and he was positive for the disease.
Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez is disappointed over the city recording its first case of COVID-19 now. He admitted that it is his fear and it has now happened.
According to the report, Mayor Gomez is calling out to the authorities to really test before sending people and to not allow them to go in case the result is positive.
“Paki-test ho muna bago niyo pasakayin ng bus, bago niyo pasakayin ng eroplano. If they are positive huwag niyo munang paalisin, stay where they are,” the Mayor said.
