Vanessa Bryant filed a case against LA County sheriff over unauthorized photos of the helicopter crash scene.
Vanessa Bryant filed a case against Los Angeles County sheriff’s department for spreading unauthorized photos of the helicopter crash scene.
This, as Vanessa’s late husband Kobe and late daughter Gianna were among the nine people who died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas last January 26.
People magazine on Friday obtained a court filing in which Vanessa Bryant was seeking damages for emotional distress and mental anguish following the revelations that eight deputies from Los Angeles County sheriff’s department took graphic photos of helicopter crash scene and spread it with others.
As stated in the court filing obtained by People magazine, there was “no investigative purpose” for sheriff’s department deputies to take photos at the site, instead, they took photos for their “personal purposes”. Based on a report on GMA News Online, only the coroner’s office and investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were authorized to take photos of the helicopter crash scene.
The court filing, according to People magazine, also stated that Department leadership reportedly told the sheriff’s department deputies that they will face “no discipline” if they deleted the crash scene photos instead of investigating the allegations in order to identify the “extent of dissemination and contain the spread of the photos.”
A spokesperson for the Bryant family told People magazine that the said lawsuit was only about “enforcing accountability, protecting the victims,” and ensuring that no one has to “deal with this conduct in the future”.
