Ramon Jacinto was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as the new Undersecretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Ramon “RJ” Jacinto, the Presidential Adviser on Information and Communications Technology, as the Undersecretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
This, after Eliseo Rio Jr., the former DICT Undersecretary, resigned from his post, saying that he’s “no longer needed in DICT” and he would spend his time with his family.
In a report on Rappler, Jacinto will no longer serve as the Presidential Adviser on Information and Communications Technology.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement that Ramon Jacinto was appointed last May 22, saying that Undersecretary Jacinto will serve the Department of Information and Communications Technology with dedication and integrity and he will contribute to “achieving the Department’s mandate under the current administration”.
As per the report, Ramon Jacinto was a musician who campaigned for Duterte and performed in Duterte’s rallies during the 2016 Presidential elections. He was also named as the Presidential Adviser on Information and Communications Technology last July 2016.
Previously, former DICT Usec. Eliseo Rio Jr. offered his resignation last January 31, mentioning conflicting views with other executives in the agency.
Eliseo Rio Jr. was a retired general who also served as the acting chief of the Department of Information and Communications Technology. He was then reassigned as DICT Undersecretary last 2019 after Gringo Honasan, a former senator, was appointed as the DICT Secretary.
