Japanese Prime Minister Was Set To Extend Japan’s State Of Emergency To May 31
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday was prepared to extend Japan’s nationwide state of emergency until May 31, 2020.
This, as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was about to explain at a press conference later Monday about the Japanese government’s decision. The announcement came as Japan’s state of emergency was about to end on May 6, in which Prime Minister Shinzo Abe previously declared an initial month-long state of emergency on April 7.
According to Yasutoshi Nishimura, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s minister responsible for the COVID-19 outbreak, said that they obtained approval for extending the state of emergency in the entire country until May 31.
Following a meeting of infectious disease experts earlier on Monday, Yasutoshi Nishimura warned that the battle against the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 was “far from over”.
The state of emergency in Japan was significantly-less restrictive as compared to other countries with strict lockdown measures as the Japanese government allowed governors to encourage the public to stay at their homes and call on businesses to close temporarily.
Meanwhile, the Japanese government said that it was increasing its testing capacity and yet continued to face criticisms.
As per the report, Japan reported more than 5,000 total cases of COVID-19 and 510 total coronavirus deaths. Globally, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases already reached over 3.5 million, with 248,310 total fatalities and 1,156,984 total recoveries reported.
