DepEd will conduct virtual graduation programs in the Philippines in partnership with Microsoft.
The Department of Education officially announced that the DepEd will conduct virtual graduation programs in partnership with Microsoft.
This, as the #Hello2020Graduates program was powered by Microsoft 365, as such, it would give schools access to desktop productivity apps including Office, secured communication software, as well as intelligent cloud services.
Under this program, schools would be able to conduct graduation programs via Microsoft Teams’ Live Event feature that would allow a minimum of 10,000 participants. In addition, this would allow students’ family members who were abroad or in other parts of the country to witness the ceremony online.
The virtual graduation program requires minimum internet connectivity and comes with the technical guide and manual which were approved by the Department of Education, following the standard flow of graduation — marching of students, farewell address from DepEd representatives and school administrators, and delivery of speeches from honor students.
DepEd’s #Hello2020Graduates program had its pilot run in Panabo National High School in Panabo City, Ruparan National High School in Digos City, Cornelio Reta Sr. Elementary School in Davao City last May 13, 2020. As of press time, a total of 1,462 students from eight schools in Region 11 celebrated their graduation online.
The said program, as per the report, was already available to all public and private schools in the Philippines.
DepEd’s virtual graduation programs came as the Philippines continued to suspend social gatherings and classed on academic institutions due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. As of 4:00 p.m. of May 27, the Department of Health reported a total of 15,049 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 904 total fatalities, and 3,506 total recoveries.
