This is the life now of former actor Ruel Vernal who played “kontrabida roles”
Former actor Ruel Vernal, who was known for his “kontrabida” roles in Pinoy actions movies, is living this life now.
Ruel was popular for his villain roles during the 1970s up to the 1990s. He effectively played his roles that have brought terror to the leading ladies and threat to the leading men. Who would not get scared of his big built and voice that would always sound that you are in danger?
Because of that, the actor spent three decades of his life in the Philippine entertainment industry and made appearances in several films that became hits such as Kapag Buhay Ang Inutang, Kapitan Pablo: Cavite’s Killing Fields, and Hindi Pa Tapos Ang Laban.
His last appearance in a movie was in 2003 for Dayo. Within those years he spent doing movies, Ruel Vernal was recognized. He was hailed Metro Manila Film Festival 1976 Best Supporting Actor for the movie Insiang.

For the same movie, Ruel also received the Best Supporting Actor award from Gawad Urian. Aside from his movie stints, the former actor was also popular for being a model of Red Horse Beer from 1982-1983.
Ruel Vernal is now happily living in Washington D.C. with his loved ones after he retired from the showbiz industry, based on a YouTube video posted by Dalton Channel. He is now 73 years old but still the mark that he was once an action movie star remains visible.

I was particularly drawn to his character in Insiang where he showed the brutality and sensuality over his victims. Of course, Hilda Coronel and Mona Lisa were at their best as daughter and mother trapped at the two opposite ends of a relationship concluded by a bloody showdown. His role could have landed him a tie in the Best Actor Category. Just my thought.

I remember one of his movie together with Jaycee Bonin and Lito Lapid entitled “Kamagong” a movie of Arnis player who debouted their skills to be the right owner of the so called Arnis Weapon “Kamagong”.
I loved that movie. I always watch it when it is shown on classic movie before.
