Negros Oriental declared a state of calamity in preparation for community quarantine.
Negros Oriental on Monday declared a state of calamity as the provincial government was preparing for community quarantine.
Under the law, local governments can have access to additional funds if their place of jurisdiction is under a state of calamity. According to Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, the provincial’s quick response fund will be used in order to provide assistance to families who will be required to undergo home quarantine.
Negros Oriental was expected to limit the entry and exit of people to and from the province which will start on March 17 in order to stop the possible entry of patients who tested positive for the coronavirus disease or COVID-19.
According to Degamo, only residents of Neg. Oriental will be allowed to enter the province, adding that it would take effect until further notice but the province “will have to estimate first, but this will not take long because we really have to make sure that the province is secured.”
