Italy Overtakes China in Coronavirus Death Toll
ITALY – The country surpassed the death toll of China due to the 2019 novel coronavirus or COVID-19.
Currently, Italy is under a lockdown after it was severely hit by the 2019 novel coronavirus, officially called as COVID-19. Its coronavirus infected cases and deaths continue to increase.
Before the total lockdown, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte only limited the travel restrictions in the region of Lombardy and 14 provinces. However, the COVID-19 cases kept on soaring.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte declared the total lockdown in his country as a move to contain the spread of COVID-19. He also ordered all non-essential businesses in the country to suspend operation and work.
However, the total number of infected cases and deaths in the country are still taking an upward momentum now. The coronavirus death toll in Italy has exceeded the record of China, the epicenter of the virus where it first emerged.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the AFP tally showed that the coronavirus death toll of Italy is now at 3,405. It was after a 425 deaths were recorded in just 24 hours. China got 3,405 coronavirus death toll.
With regards to the global death toll due to coronavirus, it has surpassed 9,000. China remains to be the country with the highest number of coronavirus infection at nearly 81,000. The Italian nation got 41, 035.
